I’m sure many of you can think of other words to describe I-81 other than “adventurous” but I am trying to be nice… even though a 45 minute trip ended up taking more than an hour and a half because of a 3 mile plus back up on the highway this afternoon…
Last night, after work I drove to Blacksburg to visit with mom and the rest of the family… we got up this morning went out for coffee and a bagel with my sister… stopped by my brother’s office then headed back home… visited a little more and I decided to leave to head to Roanoke early… so I could stop by the dealership to finish up buying my “new to me” car… or run a quick errand before I got to the station but to my delight (sarcasm) traffic came to a slow crawl at mile marker 123…
Two lanes of traffic - everyone moving slow - no one is going to be able to get ahead people!!! There is no reason to tailgate or switch back and forth between lanes… so I called 511… that is V-DOT’s phone service that offers a recording with traffic back-ups and delays across Virginia… I was immediately informed of the fact that the left northbound lane was closed… so I slowly merged into the right lane - If everyone called 511 then this whole traffic snag would have gone more smoothly… everyone waits until the last minute and then the flow is interrupted…
Needless to say I finally got to the source of the back up which was giant pipe that had fallen off of a tractor trailer… after spending more than an hour looking at the back of a giant truck I was ready to be at work… no car pre-work car purchase… no errands… just work…
Positive side note- I was able to buy the car on my dinner break tonight and it is great to have that big task checked off the “to do” list…
