Trying to stay well when the world around you is sick…

Every year.. I feel like I do the same thing.. wash my hands.. use the wipes for the grocery carts… anti-bacterial hand gel… cough into your sleeve.. don’t touch your face… and it feels like sometimes I win and sometimes I don’t… so far this flu season as Charlie Sheen would say…“Winning!”

I am trying to be extra careful this week.. I have heard that long runs can sometimes break your immune system down briefly… after running 13.1 miles in the Walt Disney Half Marathon on Saturday… walking around an airport.. riding on an airplane… and being around thousands of other runners who no doubt have as many germs as anyone else.. and then coming back to the news room which my husband loving calls a cesspool of germs… I am trying to be even more cautious than usual…

In addition to the aforementioned germ-a-phobe measures that I normally take.. I am trying to make sure I get enough sleep at night… I know it is easier said than done… and it is one of the things I often neglect… I typically run in high gear all the time… but part of my continued quest to become a better me is to do more than eat right and exercise but to also take more time to appreciate life and prioritize my time better so that I am not always a little stress ball bouncing from task to task… will that keep me from getting the flu?

Probably not… so it is a good thing I got my flu shot weeks ago…
