I try to be wise with our money. I don’t make a lot of impulse purchases.. because I typically end up having buyers remorse afterward.. my husband rarely spends money on himself but the running joke in the family is when I make a purchase it is usually for myself and under 100.00 dollars.. when Matt makes a purchase it is for something like a John Deere tractor or an air compressor… but those things don’t seem at all fun to me.. maybe they are to him but ultimately they are tools that are used to do work…
My idea of a fun splurge is a new purse or new pair of shoes like I got today while I was in Blacksburg visiting my mom… we like to go to breakfast.. get coffee and then do a little shopping.. then we’ll go back to her apartment for lunch and I get ready to come to Roanoke for work… but it can be annoying to shop with me…
My mom will sometimes feign frustration (or perhaps it is real) when I fill up my cart with several items and then as we are shopping I end up putting most if not all of them back… I can talk myself into a buy and out of a buy so easily… then I have to look at the item and think about what I will wear it with.. Will I really get the use out of it? Do I really need it? (There are several items that have been placed on the banned until further notice list) Do I already have something similar?
The super sassy silver shoes I got today passed the test and my mom seemed extremely surprised that I actually made it to the check out line with them… a new pair of shoes every now and then won’t hurt… and I think actually gives the mood a nice little boost.
Items that are on my banned until further notice list:
*Candles - if you open two of the cabinets in our kitchen there are enough candles to light the whole house in a power outage
*Glasses - if you open the other cabinets you will see every kind of glass you can think of - Matt somewhat sarcastically remarked a few months ago as he opened all of the cabinets in the kitchen that “we could never have a party big enough to use all of these glasses…why do we need this many?”
