The stockings are hung on the new mantle with care

We have owned our house for more than 7 years and as many of you know there is always something that needs to be done around the house.. or something that you want to do around the house.. both inside and out… sometimes it is difficult to maintain the home.. let alone make any improvements…

Over the years we have done some things around the house but there is a lot to maintain outside and so some of the improvements inside have been put on hold… not to mention the fact that it takes time… and that is something that is often in short supply around our house… all that said I finally got a mantle for our living room and Matt installed it Sunday so that I could hang our stockings…

We have a large stone wall in our living room and it took me a while to figure out what would be best to go over the fireplace.. a friend suggested having a mantle made from lumbar… I found a place in Roanoke that had quite a bit of pine from a Kentucky distillery that has proven to be the perfect addition to our house…

The coolest part was picking out the raw timber and seeing the transformation from a ratty looking piece of wood to a beautifully sanded piece of wood with 2 corbels out of the same plank… then I put some tung oil on it and the red color came out matching the wall beautifully.. thankfully Matt is pretty handy and was able to drill into the stone to get the lag bolts secured… Merry Christmas!
