Route 116 is not meant for tractor trailers!

I drive Route 116 “Windy Gap Mountain” most days of the week on my way into work… if you are not familiar with this road allow me to elaborate… instead of tunneling through the mountain to make a straight shot from Smith Mountain Lake to Roanoke the road winds around in one spot… I mean switch-back roads… so today on my way to work I get behind a white pick up truck that is behind a full blown 18 wheeler… carrying I don’t know how much… wood… I understand that it may inconvenience this driver a bit to take the “long way” around ie Route 220 or some other suitable road but instead at least four times through the switch backs this truck driver would simply beep his horn a few times as a warning to oncoming traffic - IN A BLIND CURVE no less that he was going to take up both lanes… at one point cars were trying to pull off the road a bit to give him room… the road doesn’t have a shoulder… it has a ledge… not only is this irresponsible and lazy on the part of the driver… it is dangerous… perhaps there should be some sort of sign at either end of this road signifying that a tractor trailer should not be driven on it!!!  This is how trucks end up over the side of the mountain… tying up traffic and putting lives at risk.
