The nickname “chokies” has come up a time or two in the years since I graduated from Virginia Tech… there was a time in history when the team just couldn’t seem to come from behind… don’t get me wrong… win or lose… I am a fan… but as we all know it feels better when your team wins…
I was working last night so in between meetings and cut-ins and news casts… I would catch an update on the score or get an instant message about a great pass… and time after time Virginia Tech showed what team spirit is all about.. it was like watching a team graduate in their last game of the season… all year long the players had been working on finding a groove… it seemed like they had an electrical connection but at times it would short out a little and you would be left wondering what went wrong… why didn’t they get that down… why didn’t he catch that pass… how could they have let the other team get those points on the board….
But… there was none of that last night… it was all about proving to the doubters and the Tennessee braggers that Virginia Tech has what it takes… and that the nickname “chokies” does not apply to this team… I can’t wait to watch the progress continue next season.
