NRV Fair “Throw Back”

I like to listen to a lot of different kinds of music… pop… rap… country… 80s.. you name it but about 10 years ago my musical tastes were more in line with pop songs… country wasn’t really on my radar… so when I was told I would be going live from the New River Valley Fair for the news and that I was to interview a country singer named Kenny Chesney… I wasn’t blown away by the assignment…

I remember getting to the fair grounds.. talking to his manager or whoever… I had to talk to about what I planned to ask him during the interview… who by the way wasn’t overly pleasant… then watching Kenny Chesney and his band members practice their performance that they would put on later that night for people who came out to see him…

Anyone who followed country music knew he was an upcoming “big deal” and several people from work thought it was so cool that I was going to get to meet him… with all of that hype… I dubbed off a copy of my live shot from that night about 10 years ago… just in case he ever really was a “big deal”... well.. I think we all know that he is now a multi-million dollar musician who has gone beyond “rock star” status..

So even though my WSLS t-shirt is about three sizes too big… I think I was also wearing “acid wash” jeans… and my hair was in desperate need of some highlights… I’m still glad I kept the tape.

Everyone acted like he was such a big deal at the time
