On our way to a Christmas party on Saturday I ran through a Starbucks drive-thru to get a “tall, non-fat, gingerbread latte with no whip…” now it has taken me a while to get comfortable with ordering coffee from Starbucks - Basically, I got a “small, gingerbread flavored hot espresso drink made with skim milk and no whipped cream on top.”
That by itself is not very interesting… but when I started comparing calories for similar sounding drinks I was floored at the difference…
Calorie counts according to http://www.starbucks.com - whipped cream on top adds 60 calories to your beverage.
All size “Tall”
Non-fat Gingerbread Latte with no whip- 150 calories
Non-fat Pumpkin Spice Latte with no whip- 200 calories
Non-fat White Chocolate Mocha no whip- 270 calories
Non-fat Caramel Brulee Latte no whip- 240
Non-fat Peppermint Mocha no whip- 220 calories
When I tried to order an Eggnog Latte as a non-fat drink I was told they use 2% - it is 370 calories!!! Even if they did make it with non-fat milk in only registered as 350… now taste-wise I like *it* as much as the Gingerbread… I actually like the non-fat Gingerbread even more!!! I could drink more than two of the same sized Gingerbread Lattes for the calories in the Eggnog version… these are the small calorie savers that may keep me on track to preventing holiday weight gain without deprivation of treats every now and then.
