Mystery disease diagnosed

A young boy in Franklin County and his family were about to give us hope that anyone would be able to figure out why the child was so sick… the symptoms were to some degree strange - at one point he began to turn a shade of orange… he described himself to me as starting to look like one on Willy Wonka’s Oompa Loompa characters… it seems funny now that he has been treated and is back to normal life with his family and friends.

His story reminds me that even though our doctors know more about conditions than ever due to research and experience and the technology for treating and diagnosing different illnesses and conditions is straight out of some kind of sci fi movie… we still rely on a physicians experience and attention to detail… a doctor’s ability to search through that database we call our mind and retrieve and formulate critical information that a simple or complex test may not show.

There is no public health threat because of this child’s illness… his sickness was not contagious but even still his story is amazing.  Watch for it Thursday August 27th on WSLS starting at 5:00pm.
