My own little detox diet…

I preface this with the fact that I have no scientific evidence that the changes I have made for the past three days will do me or anyone else any good but so far I feel better… except for the headache I am fighting off right now :)

So over the weekend as my “staycation” was coming to an end I realized I was hanging on to my healthy habits by a thread… vacation means relaxing… and I relaxed about everything… I used a one hour massage gift certificate Matt gave me for my birthday - we ate out a couple of nights and well… you know what it is like to take vacation… all time schedules and deadlines go out the window - rules are meant to be broken etc…. I exercised but I didn’t really push myself as much as I normally do…

Well… I decided that starting Monday of this week I was going to start “my own little detox diet”  - what does that mean?

Well it means “little to no sugar”... a lot more water - I have even cut out diet sodas for the most part… but have kept my coffee habit (even still I think that I am feeling a bit of caffeine withdrawal due to the faint head throb I have going right now).

Typically, I see nothing wrong with a glass of red wine a day… but I have also cut that out… I am eating mostly fresh foods for all meals and getting plenty of protein… I’ve started the past few mornings with an egg white and spinach omelet and a piece of whole grain toast… instead of cereal and fruit… tonight - I packed baked fish and veggies for dinner - and after only three days of this regimen I have noticed a difference in my food cravings - I think you crave what you eat - at least that is true for me… there is no real science to my changes… like the female bodybuilder we interviewed the other day who talked about every macro-nutrient being measured… but it definitely takes some resolve and willpower…

I am starting to ramp up the miles for training for the November 14th SunTrust Marathon in Richmond - this week I will probably 30+ miles… want to be strong and lean for when the miles top 40 and get close to 50!!
