Most of you know I love the Hokies… I am from Blacksburg… I graduated from Virginia Tech… it would almost be a shame if I didn’t pull for them… I love my VT flip-flops…. shirts… sweat shirts… hoodies… golf shirts…even the ball caps (they don’t look that great on my but I don’t really care) - one time Matt and I were flying out of town for vacation and I went a little overboard without realizing it - I had a VT bag… hat… sweat shirt and goodness knows what else… I think he may have actually been a little embarrassed - he looked over at me as we were waiting in the airport to get on the plane and said with a hint of sarcasm “Are you a Tech fan?”
He is a Hokie too… he also graduated from VT - we didn’t know each other in school but when we first met it was an automatic common ground… my middle name is Lane and Matt used to joke that was one of the reasons he liked me so much because “Lane Stadium” is one of his favorite places (there is no real connection) - I think all Hokie fans (other college football fans too) share a common ground… we can be out of town somewhere far… far… away and see a VT flag or someone wearing a VT t-shirt and it feels like home…
I recently found out we will be going to a couple of Tech’s football games with friends this season and I am already picturing it in my head… thousands of screaming fans… a sea of maroon and orange… the hot dogs (even though they aren’t on the “detox diet”) the tailgating.. the walking who knows how many miles from the car to Lane Stadium… the excitement is contagious… can you hear Metallica playing Enter Sandman yet? I know I can.
