Interrupting

Today was a beautiful day for a run… the sun was out… the air was crisp not cold… and I had just enough time to run 4 miles… shower… let the dog out… and get in my car to come to Roanoke for a Jingle Bell Run Lunch Meeting…

As I was running out of my driveway I saw two men looking at a house that is for sale… one appeared to be showing it to the other.. When one of the men looked my way.. I waved to be nice… nothing… the other one stared… I waved… no response… so I went on my way… out two miles then turn around and come back…

One thing I like about a run is a sprint at the end… if I still have plenty of energy… then I pick up the pace for a strong finish… one I got back to the entrance of our neighborhood… I was running a quick sprint… in the distance I saw one man standing near the driveway of the house for sale… same one who appeared to be “showing it” earlier… on his cell phone…

I crossed to the other side of the road… to my surprise as he was on his cell phone… he put his index finger up in the air.. as if he was asking me to stop and wait for him to finish his call… so that he could ask me some sort of question…

It is amazing how many thoughts can fly through your head in a matter of seconds… I thought… Is he seriously expecting me to stop my sprint and wait for him to finish his call? - I don’t have time to stop. - I am timing my run as always and like to have an accurate measurement of my time. - This is really weird!  He didn’t even wave earlier.

As the guy noticed I had no intention of slowing down… the look on his face went from shock to almost anger… just because you choose to interrupt someone does not entitle you to that person’s undivided attention.  I thought he would all but jump out in front of me to make me stop…

I said, “Sorry… I’m training, Bud.”

But, did I really need to tell this person I was training?  Was it not enough… that I was trying to enjoy one of the only uninterrupted “relaxing” blocks of time I would have for the whole day today?

And he was on his cell phone!
