Inside the O.R. for Lis Franc Surgery

Some people may think it is a person.. some people may think it is a place in France.. but it is really a small ligament between two bones in the foot that often needs surgery to repair… when two of Virginia Tech’s linebackers got sidelined for the season with the same rare football injury… it became the talk of the town.. and not just Blacksburg…

I got to go inside the operating room for Bruce Taylor’s surgery at LewisGale Montgomery with Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Marc Siegel…

I have been in surgeries for shoots before but this one.. took 45 mintues start to finish.. and if craftsmen use drills and hardware… Dr. Siegel is definitely a skilled craftsman… Virginia Tech Head Trainer Mike Goforth says in his many years at Tech Dr. Siegel has never had a bad outcome from surgery on one of his athletes.

There is something surreal about being inside the OR… for me at least.. for everyone else it is business as usual.. everyone knows their role and works like a well oiled machine… we also got to talk to both Bruce Taylor and Jeron Gouveia-Winslow about how their recovery is coming along..

Tonight’s story is not just for Hokie Fans… any of us could end up with a Lis Franc sprain.. Tune it to see who it affects most… how it is fixed.. and what some believe is and is not responsible for the injury that has sidelined two players this season but put three players out of the game back in 2006.
