I love the lights of Christmas

Growing up I had a babysitter because my mom worked until 6:00pm most nights and on our way home during the holidays I would always ask her to take the route through downtown Blacksburg because I loved to look at the giant tree with the colorful lights… there is just something about the way Christmas lights sparkle that adds to the magic of the season for me…

I was singing Christmas carols in my car on the way home from the Jingle Bell Run on Saturday thinking about the true meaning of Christmas and how it can sometimes get lost in the hurried attempt to check off everything that is on a gift list or to do list.. getting the grocery list taken care of so that Christmas dinner and desserts are ready to be made… and a peace came over my heart because ultimately Christmas is about the birth of baby Jesus… I have a small white glass nativity scene my mom gave me on the table in our entryway and everytime I walk by it makes me smile… it is one of my favorite decorations in addition to the trees and lights…

In addition to the colorful lights.. I love the sparkle of white lights… we got an LED Christmas tree a couple of years ago and always put candles in the window and a wreath over the door.. nothing too fancy but just enough to be festive… this year I did splurge on battery powered candles… they operate on a timer and there are no crazy cords to deal with… sometimes it’s the little things…

I hope the season is filled with peace, joy and love for you and your family.
