Holiday traditions old and new

Earlier today I was making a grocery list for all of the goodies I plan to bake this weekend for the holidays…  Most of the recipes are new.. but there is one that came from my grandma… I don’t think it is any kind of secret family recipe… your grandma probably has the same one for “Peanut Butter Pinwheels”  every Christmas when my mom’s mom was still alive and dementia free… we would spend Thanksgiving and Christmas at her house.. she always had plenty of pinwheels in the fridge or freezer along with other yummy goodies that I only got around Christmas…

Just a couple of years ago my sister started making Paula Deen’s White Chocolate Cherry Chunkie Cookies that are so good I could eat them for breakfast… that was a new tradition that I have enjoyed…

When I was little my brother and sister and I used to argue and almost fight over who got to put the angel on top of the Christmas tree… so much so that mom made us take turns each year… I am not even sure where the angel came from and over the years it got to be a bit tattered… but right now it is sitting inside the branches on my Christmas tree… my grandma always put decorations on the inner branches of her tree…  I have recently started doing the same thing…  I have a new Christmas ornament to add to my tree this year… my friend Alison who was also my marathon training partner gave me a Christmas ball that is silver and simply has 26.2 on it for decoration…

I have three new recipes I am trying out this year…

Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies

Oatmeal Cream Cheese Butterscotch Bars

Sunny’s Crunchy Peanut Butter S’more Bites

We’ll see if any of these treats become traditions or one year wonders…

Still have presents to wrap… gifts to buy… Christmas cards to send.. you name it and I probably haven’t quite done it…
