While there is certainly no guarantee that Virginia Tech will be going back to the ACC Championship next year.. if they did I would go again in a second… even though the weather left something to be desired.. the first part of Saturday was a mixture of sleet and rain off and on.. a hotel worker insisted it was hail… “Sir, that is a hail storm..” Matt mumbled to me.. “It only hails in the summer time.. that is sleet…” I let it go.. because all I knew was that it was “precip” and it was wet…

I just verified Matt’s statement with Chief Meteorologist Jeff Haniewich who confirms.. it was definitely sleet… this time of year any ice that falls is sleet…
That being said.. the game was absolutely awesome.. the only other major VT game I had been to for fun.. was the Independence Bowl in Shreveport LA years ago when I was a student at Virginia Tech…
The hotel was great.. it was within walking distance of the stadium which meant we didn’t have to fight traffic.. a good friend of ours helped us get tickets… we sat with other Hokie fans and our view was awesome… we were on the second row of the first tier and when Boykin caught the TD pass in the end zone we had the perfect view…
The thing that was the craziest was the eruption from Florida State fans when they scored… I am so used to Lane Stadium where the cheering is always predominantly for Virginia Tech..

When Tech scored it was crazy loud… but then Florida State would retaliate and the whole chanting thing would start and their fans were loud too.. it was almost eerie… even when we were two touch downs ahead I knew it wasn’t safe… or nearly enough to call the game in our favor…
We stayed through the bitter end… even the last 4:30 where FSU’s coach painfully dragged out his losing battle… I mean really… if he had a chance to win I could see kicking an on side kick but there was no way to win.. not enough minutes left on the clock… everyone was cold and just ready for the game to come to a close.. talk about a spoiled sport…
I’m just glad the Hokies won and played strong for all four quarters.. they converted on third downs consistently and made the Hokie Nation proud. Now let’s hope that hardwork carries over to the Orange Bowl in Miami…
I won’t be making that trip but with those who are could bottle up some of that sunshine and warm weather and bring it back on January 4th.. I think we are going to need it.
