This year Matt and I have season tickets to the Virginia Tech games… I am from Blacksburg and graduated from VT and Matt is also an alum… we love the Hokies and always cheer for them… but I have to say I am over “white outs” and “black outs”... “maroon days” and “orange days..”

I love my Hokie gear and went out and bought some new items from the bookstore before this season… I wanted a football jersey to wear this year… in the women’s cut they had 3 jerseys that were “pink and white” with the number 1 on them… other than that… there were no other ladies jerseys to choose from.. Are you kidding me? 

Last time I checked VT colors are not pink and white… they are maroon orange and white… I understand some people like a little variation… but to me that should be the extras that are offered…  not the only item…

So how did I end up with my maroon, orange and white #34 Ryan Williams jersey?  I marched over to the boys’ department and found one that fit… Female VA Tech fans should not have to shop in the boys’ department to show school spirit… but we do…

And what were those uniforms the players were wearing for the Boise State game?  I mean black helmets with “purple” stripes in the front?? Purple.. not maroon.. not even close…

When did black become one of our school colors?  Oh wait.. it’s not… I know “Nike makes them wear them”  but really those uniforms did not make me want to go out and buy the brand… not to mention that anytime our players wear a funky color scheme on their uniforms they do not play well… and while we played the last three quarters really well… the first quarter was painful…

Could it be because of the crazy uniforms?  I think not… it was because we made rookie mistakes that caused us yards upon yards in penalties… we didn’t give Tyrod enough time *ever* to throw the ball… and our defense let Boise state march down the field and go up 17 to 0 like it was a game of powder puff before we finally found a way to stop them and put pressure on Moore…

I have been hard on the Hokies for this loss because we *had* it… we are as good or better than Boise State and that game should have been ours.. yes it is time to move on.. .yes I will be cheering the Hokies on in Lane Stadium this Saturday wearing my maroon, orange and white jersey… I will not be “whiting out”.. I am over the last minute gimmick calls for our football attire.. I do not want to buy a cheap boxy t-shirt just to “fit in” with the other fans who do…
