If you are a Hokie fan chances are you are a Beamer fan.. they don’t call it Beamerball for nothing… when there is a big play on the field the cameras usually catch his reaction.. sometimes good.. sometimes bad… that is just part of being a coach I guess…
I just finished writing my special report that airs Thursday on WSLS 10 at 6:00p and 11:00p and a different version for WSLS Today to air Friday morning…
The story’s main focus is the much talked about Lis Franc foot sprain that has sidelined two key defensive players for Virginia Tech. What a cool story it has turned out to be.. I got to go inside the operating room a couple of weeks ago at LewisGale Montgomery for Bruce Taylor’s surgery with Dr. Marc Siegel.. and tonight I got to interview Head Trainer Mike Goforth and talk to Taylor and Jeron Gouveia-Winslow about their recovery…
Not only do I find the injury and the recovery incredibly interesting… I’m pleased with all of the interviews… I’ve talked with Coach Beamer in the past but.. it was a treat to get to unexpectedly see him tonight in the training room as he was passing through… that man always has a smile on his face…
I couldn’t resist getting a picture with him.. I even prefaced it with “Coach Beamer, this is probably completely unprofessional.. but can I get a picture with you?”
He smiled and responded, “Sure!”
Then afterward on his way out the door he said, “I want you to sign a copy of that and send it to me.”
I thought he was kidding..
I said, “How about I send it to you.. you sign it… and send it back to me .”
He walked out and then walked back in and said, “I’m serious about the picture. I have a place for them at home.”
I could only imagine all of the media people he has had his picture with. I know I’m kind of a nerd but it tickled me that he would want to include my picture with that collection.
UNC game on Thursday. My story airs at 6:00pm so please check it out before you cheer on the team. Go Hokies!!
