Carilion Clinic sponsors the Women’s Health University Series that holds a luncheon every quarter to address different health issues that women face and to provide resources and information for the creation of an overall healthier lifestyle. I am the emcee of the events and have the honor of introducing the guest speakers.
There have been three events so far this year including: The Power of Prevention, Stuck in the Middle: Caring for your elderly parents, Managing the Mayhem of Menopause and Thursday November 4th the topic of discussion is Fit and Fabulous: The incredible benefits of regular exercise.
The fourth and final luncheon of the year seems to have the most broad appeal because no matter how healthy a person is there is always room for improvement and we all need a little extra support and motivation when it comes to maintaining our health. For instance, I love running and exercise but it doesn’t mean that I never try to make an excuse or come up with a reason to cancel a workout.

Ally Bowersock, Program Director for Exercise Science at the Jefferson College of Health Sciences will provide tools and information at next week’s event that address finding the time to workout, making exercise a part of a routine for the whole family and the importance of strength training as we age in order to fight our declining metabolism and muscle mass.
Ally has been featured in many past health segments and provides excellent tips in a way that is easy to understand and helpful for everyday application.
If you would like to attend the luncheon call (540) 266-6000 and register before Monday November 1st. The cost is fifteen dollars at the door.
