It is no secret that I am a Virginia Tech fan… I grew up in Blacksburg and graduated from Virginia Tech… I know several people who are hard core UVA fans too… we can co-exist in harmony… typically the politically correct fan says - I cheer for UVA as long as they aren’t playing Tech or vice versa… showing support for a Virginia University… but there will be no such talk among fans leading up to this weekend’s big game…

There have been so many criticims of the Hokies and the Cavs this season.. some justified and some not… it is easy to talk about how bad another team’s offense is until “your own” makes the same seemingly silly mistakes… I do my share of yelling at the television during college and NFL games… you should have heard me when the Redskins failed to only score a couple of field goals but to me there is no excuse for getting close enough for a field goal a handful of times and not scoring a touch down!!!

But, NFL players get paid to do that job… college students may get scholarships but most of them are still kids who are trying to find their way in life and my guess… is that any player in college has aspirations to one day go pro… a few will… but most will not…

All many of them will have in the long run are the memories they have created with their team on and off the field… and those memories no doubt are lasting…

I can only imagine what it must feel like to be the kicker who has the chance to win the big game with a short field goal he makes everyday in practice… only to shank it to the left… or to be the player who has consistently held onto the ball during game after game… but in a clutch moment fumbles and in the end it appears that play is what cost the game… 

On any given game day anything can happen… Hopefully it will be a good hard fought game on both sides… but I’m pulling for a Hokie win.
