Everybody has ways of dealing with the cold dreary weather we are having… for some it was curling up on the couch today with a movie or a book… schools were closed perhaps some of you had the day off from work… when you work in news these are the days when you really have to be on the job… safely of course… I spent last night in Roanoke to try to make sure my ride in would be a safe one… I didn’t want to take a chance on my 40 minute commute…
Truth be told the trip probably would have been okay but I kept a close eye on my car thermometer and was relieved when the temperature hovered around 34 as opposed to 32… snow would be pretty and if it has to be cold I don’t mind the snow… but freezing rain… there is nothing pretty about freezing rain and four or all wheel drive means nothing… the little winter mode switch in my car means nothing on ice…
Anyway… even though I have been trying to save like everyone else… not eating out much… since I stayed in Roanoke last night I didn’t have a chance to be obsessive about packing my dinner and snacks for the day… so I stopped at Panera on my way back to work from break and have to say the french onion soup was the best I have ever had… maybe it is the weather… maybe I was just hungry… no matter - sometimes the small treats we allow ourselves have more meaning that we realize… yes it was just soup but.. it was a small break from the norm and sometimes that goes a long way…
