This was the 7th year for the Celebration of Heroes breakfast, sponsored by WSLS 10 and of course the American Red Cross…. and this was my 7th year as the emcee for an event that always makes me feel humbled and blessed…
I often pray for safety… for my family.. my friends.. .my co-workers… on my way into Roanoke for the breakfast very early this morning before the sun came up I began to think about the day and how it would go… the people we would be honoring…their stories of helping other people… fighting for our freedom… saving people’s lives… it dawned on me that when we pray for safety and protection God puts people in our lives at the right moment in time to help us…
My husband was in a horrible car accident last June and there happened to be 2 men stuck in traffic who were EMTs… they immediately were by his side as he was bleeding and in need of care… what are the odds? I say it was the best and worst day of my life… the worst because the accident happened.. the best because God let me keep him.. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it…
And there were some tears shed at this morning’s breakfast… as we all listened to the stories of people who help others… just because they believe it is the right thing to do… while we have a lot of people like that in our world… it would be nice to have even more… Thank you to all of you who help others.. just because…
