My friend and co-worker Alison and I have been chipping away at our Shamrock Half Marathon training… every weekend we run 9 or 10 miles for our long run… the half is just 4 weeks away now and I think we are ready…
That being said there are still a few long runs to go and one fun way we are doing it this weekend in through the Blacksburg Classic 10 miler… The race actually starts at my former elementary school.. Margaret Beeks… it is ironic to me because when I was in the 5th grade I absolutely dreaded the “600” part of the Presidential Physical Fitness award… just writing about it I can feel the redness of my face and the burning in my lungs back then.. I hated running and said I would never ever do it voluntarily when I got old enough to avoid such challenges… guess I was wrong… it winds through the same streets I used to “guard” as a safety patrol member…
The race goes along part of the Huckleberry Trail and then ends back at Beeks… another great thing is that the weather is shaping up nicely .. at the beginning of the week we were expecting 34 degrees and rainy now it looks like it will likely be about 45 degrees and sunny!
Since my family is in Blacksburg after the big run Matt and I are meeting everyone at Olive Garden for dinner to celebrate my aunt’s birthday which will be a great way to round out the day.
