Blackberry rudeness or sign of the times?

If you have a blackberry you may be able to relate to this one… I have my blackberry hooked up to two different e-mails plus facebook… that is in addition to regular phone calls and text messages I may receive… I have chosen the least obnoxious “notifier” for each message that comes in… and I try to put the phone on silent when I am going to be around others or out to dinner or something like that… but that little red flashing light creates a temptation I can’t describe… when I see it blink I just want to check the thing so bad I can’t describe it… I am obsessed with clearing e-mails etc. from my daily “handheld” - the message comes up delete from in-box and handheld or just delete from handheld - I like highlighting all of them at once and then pressing delete so I get rid of them on the handheld but they linger in my regular e-mail box… that has not made me more efficient it has simply caused useless e-mails to pile up in my computer in-box…

So today I was on an appointment and had been “Blackberry Messaging” a response to an extremely interesting e-mail Matt sent me - I thought he would be so happy to get such a quick response from me that showed my interest… instead this is the response he sent -  “Don’t be reading and writing email the whole time you are with her.  It’s kind of rude.  Love you!”  I chuckled because he is right!!! It is rude to not give the person you are with your full attention… what is the solution?  I simply have to leave it inside my purse or at my desk—“Step away from the Blackberry…”  there is a reason it has another nickname….
