There has been a lot of talk about amusement park rides and how safe they are.. the checks they go through… and whether they are safe… this is “carnival season” and I want to be clear here that I am not offering an opinion on what I think others should do… only on what I think I will do in the future…
I have never thought twice in the past about getting on a roller-coaster.. or tilt-a-whirl or whatever… but after talking with a man who has been inspecting rides since 1996 about what happened when a local octopus ride broke as it was coming to a stop - I may never get on a ride again…
Here’s why… he explained that the part that broke could not be seen during a normal inspection… several people said the instance was similar to what might happen with a car… ie. one day it passes inspection and then two days later the air conditioning breaks… that sometimes accidents are just unpredictable…
Life is too short anyway… I am not a dare-devil “risk taker”... I would never jump out of an airplane unless it was going down and that was my only option… The thought of bungee jumping is absolutely crazy to me… so while I understand that based upon the experts we talked to… that I have a better chance of getting hurt on my drive to the carnival than on one of the rides… I think I will keep my feet on the ground and stick to the fun foods and games at any future amusement park events…
