Why is Sarah Palin continuing to make so many rookie mistakes?

The office door opened and I heard the loud words I sometimes dreaded to hear, “Leamon! Get in here!”

One of my old news directors was calling me to task about a factual mistake in a story I had written—- a simple fact I should’ve known—- and likely would have caught had I have taken the time to proof the script before air.

I remember him asking me if I wanted to be a serious journalist or just another TV reporter.

He asked me why a veteran reporter keeps making rookie mistakes?

I find myself asking if Sarah Palin wants to be a serious political reformer or does she want to be the ring leader in her own social media three ring circus?

Look there are the elephants! (Palin tweeting something about the “left leaning” news media on her Twitter account)

Oh here come the clowns! (Palin trying to be funny on a Facebook post)!

And ohhh…. here comes the lion tamer! (Palin now running Facebook and YouTube videos taking on a school teacher who made a sign “worst governor ever.”)

Ask any veteran politician what they do when they see a sign reading “worst mayor” or “worst senator” ever and he/she will tell you that they run from it like running out of a burning building.

Why does a now veteran national politician keep making so many rookie mistakes?

You certainly don’t run into that burning building! Only firefighters run into burning buildings and, in this video, Palin was not wearing turnout gear.

I’ll be the first one to criticize the national media for its constant bombardment of Sarah Palin in 2008 when she was her candidancy for Vice President was announced.

Some were brutal to her and her family (left wing bloggers and websites such as DailyKos).

Many were at least over the line in their analysis (Olbermann and Matthews on MSNBC come to mind).

But Palin hasn’t helped herself either (she could have been better prepared for interviews with Couric and Gibson, and simply refused to address matters in her personal life).

Then we have this latest video of Palin confronting a school teacher with a sign.

At times Palin seems borderline callous. With one of her daughters at her side, it also appears as two Palins versus one.

I just don’t see why Palin and her handlers would want to release or defend this video.

Seeing this makes me wonder if Palin is indeed okay with just being a run-of-the-mill FOX News political analyst.

Political trail blazers are leaders, always remain calm, and utmost collected.

No tape of Reagan ever *confronting* an average-joe voter exists.

The Obama campaign tried it (remember Joe the Plumber?), quickly realized it was a bad political move, and stopped it.

Obama is now in the oval office.

I’d bet Palin will have a three minute hit on the O’Reilly Factor or Hannity in the next couple of days.

If Palin wants to be a serious political force, it’s time to *act* like one.

No more incessant tweeting (there’s a reason why some of the best football and basketball coaches in America ban their players from tweeting during the season).

No more facebook posts.

No more dopey YouTube videos.

Governor Palin, how bout some substance?
