Seeing the fog of tragic loss

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Rocky Mount volunteer fire department tonight as well as the entire town.

Losing Posey Dillon and Danny Altice must be indescribable.

I saw the magnitude of the loss today in the what I call “the fog” you sometimes notice after a tragedy such as this one.

Many of Dillon and Altice’s colleagues at the Franklin County Department of Public Safety had to go to work today.

I saw it in their eyes—- the lack of sleep, the continued process of still piecing together what happened.

I don’t know how long it takes the fog to break.

I just know from covering previous stories like this one that the fog is thick and decisive.
