Facebook is a number of things…
Some call it concerning, voyeuristic, and a borderline invasion of privacy.
I’m not in that camp.
I think Facebook was one of the most brilliant ideas our generation will ever see.
And I tend to look at the bright side of Facebook.
It’s nice to see how friends and family are doing by simply typing their names in Facebook’s search engine and browsing their “walls.”
It also gives you a good opportunity to help friends in need.
Case in point is last night when I get an email through Facebook from a woman I went to high school with whom I probably haven’t talked to in 15 years.
She frantically wrote that another woman I went to high school with was worried about her 17 year old daughter. The daughter has gone missing in my old stomping ground of Meigs County, Tennessee and wanted to know what I could do to help.
We have pretty strict rules on airing missing persons cases.
The main stipulation is the information on the missing individual must come from police.
As far as I know police haven’t notified newspapers and television stations in that area of Tennessee.
But what I decided to do was use my Facebook page to get the word out.
You can check my wall for information and a description.
I’m five hours away from that part of Tennessee now but I still want to help.
With all Facebooks alleged faults, this is one area where it should be commended.
It makes it easier to help people.
I’m easy to find on Facebook for more info.
