The tenacity and faith of neighbors in Rocky Mount was very heartwarming to be a part of on such a difficult day.
Neighbors there didn’t know Posey Dillon as “Mr. Vice Mayor” and “Mr. Altice.”
They were known as “Posey” and “Danny.”
I heard stories of when “Danny helped me” that day when I need it and when “Posey saw me he always smiled and said ‘Hi.’”
I met the Hodges family.
They live right there on Route 40.
The Chief Dillon processional passed right by their home.
Grandma Hodges offered us some cold water.
Her 18-year-old granddaughter moved her car right by the road and but a homemade sign above the dashboard, a tribute to Chief Dillon.
There’s no doubt this town is hurting right now, but after watching the kindness, faith, and warmth I witnessed on Route 40, I have no doubt the town will heal.
It’s good to know small town America still exists.
It’s very rare I get such warm feelings covering such a tragic event.
Thanks to the Hodges family and my prayers go out to Rocky Mount, the Dillon family, and Altice family.
Live for the Dillons and Altices will never be the same, but it gives me hope there are many there in Rocky Mount ready to help.
