I have some questions for Chuck Volpe.
He’s a former Lexington real estate agent now accused of nine counts of embezzlement, including from his son’s memorial scholarship fund.
His son, Charles, drowned in the Maury River back in April 2006.
It broke a lot of people’s hearts.
I remember covering the story.
Chuck agreed to an interview on the family’s obvious grief about a week later.
He would always take my phone calls and agree to follow up on camera interviews whenever I needed him.
Very accessible.
Very pleasant.
Even though you know he was dealing with a gut-wrenching loss.
I hope he agrees to one more interview.
I’d like to ask him what happened?
Is this all a mistake?
Or is this true?
State police put the original amount he was accused of embezzling at $3,400.
Others want answers too.
Chuck always delivered his answers to the point—- no doubt about his thoughts or feelings.
He made it possible to comprehend difficult emotions.
I wonder if the answers to these questions about embezzlement would be much harder to answer.
As a dad, I feel for any father who lost a son.
As a journalist, questions still need to be asked.
