Official Chick-Fil-A Bowl Prediction

The first bubble I want to bust for UVA fans is the Michael Dyer suspension, Auburn’s best running back.

Look, Auburn had a top ten recruiting class the past two years.

They’ll be fine at running back.

None of their offensive linemen will be suspended.

They’ll just plug the next guy in.

The second bubble I’ll stick a pin in is this:  Auburn is a SEC team!  So they must be respected!

If you look at Auburn’s resume this year, they gave up 42 points to Alabama, and 45 points to LSU.

During the Alabama-LSU game, we saw the ineptitude of both of those offensive units.

Auburn’s big wins this season were at South Carolina and the Cocktail Party victory over an offensively hapless Florida team.

Auburn is mistake prone; the Tigers turned the ball over twice against Samford.

The Tigers will be minus defensive coordinator Ted Roof (new head coach at Central Florida); and offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has one foot out the door (he’s leaving to take the head coaching gig at Arkansas State).

The Cavs made significant improvements once the coaching staff put Michael Rocco under center on a permanent basis.

An early season home loss to Southern Mississippi doesn’t look near as bad now as it did in September.

I still don’t know what happened to the Cavs in the Hokies blowout game.

Basically I think the Hoos will try to run it down the War Eagles throats.

This will set up the passing game for Rocco; which has worked this season *when* the Cavs establish the running game *first*.

Auburn’s speed concerns me.

Auburn doesn’t have as much team speed as say… Tech, but then we saw what the Hokies did to UVA.

The Tigers did play well against the run in wins over the Gamecocks and Gators.

Overall I think Auburn is overrated (#25 in BCS) but I think the Cavs offensive style of play will keep the game close.

My expectation:

Auburn 23, Virginia 21.

Close game.  Could go either way.  But in the end the Cavs performance against the Hokies just left a horrible taste in my mouth.
