NBA draft will have impact for fans in Roanoke

You should really watch the NBA Draft tonight.

At least the first three picks.

I figure Kentucky’s John Wall will go first to the Washington Wizards.

Then the Sixers pick at number two.

Why should we care?  Well the Sixers will take on the Nets (who happen to hold the number three pick) at the Roanoke Civic Center on October 5th at 7 p.m.

  I’ve got my tickets!

So we have the potential to see the two of the first three picks in the NBA Draft.

If things go the way I think it’ll go—- the Sixers will take Ohio State’s Evan Turner and the Nets will take Georgia Tech’s Derrick Favors, a freshmen like Wall.

Not a bad couple of players to see at the Civic Center come October.

The last two teams to come to the Civic Center were the Charlotte Hornets and the Detroit Pistons in 1997.

The Hornets had Tech’s Dell Curry, UNC’s J.R. Reid, and former Chicago Bull B.J. Armstrong.  The team won 51 games that year.

The Pistons had Grant Hill, Rick Mahorn, and Jerry Stackhouse.

Ironically Doug Collins coached the Pistons back then.

He’ll be back in Roanoke coaching the Sixers on October 5th.
