McDonnell’s VP tryout

This has got to be a tryout?

Right?

Governor McDonnell said in a conference call earlier that he’ll be in South Carolina by four o’clock this afternoon at a campaign event for Mitt Romney.

The governor endorsed Romney today.

In the conference call, the governor also said he’ll be with Romney in the Palmetto State tomorrow morning, which happens to be the day of the primary.

The governor is set to get tons of exposure since all the eyes of the national media will be focused on South Carolina tonight and tomorrow.

His schedule says he’ll be back in Virginia tomorrow night by 8 p.m. for a college basketball game.

McDonnell dismissed a question on the conference call from a reporter on if his endorsement and trip to South Carolina are signs he is seeking the vice presidential nomination.

I don’t see how this is not an indicator that the Romney campaign is taking a hard look at McDonnell as the second member of the ticket.

If Romney wins tomorrow, and then again in Florida, this thing will be over by the time they get to Virginia.

My guess is the campaign will give Florida senator Marco Rubio a similar tryout after the SC primary when they go to Florida.
