Let’s not jump to conclusions on Tech point guard Dorenzo Hudson

Let’s not jump to conclusions on Virginia Tech point guard Dorenzo Hudson.

A lot of you have been talking about what role, if any, Hudson had in the Cody Journell case.

Here are the facts so far as I heard them today from the an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in Journell’s bond appeal hearing:

1) Hudson is the only victim in this case.  Prosecutors and police have said that Hudson’s roommate was the intended target of the three men; not Hudson.

2) The commonwealth’s attorney’s office asked Hudson if he would be okay with Journell receiving a bond and Hudson said yes; as long as Journell was not permitted to have any contact with him.

3) Police say that Matt Dunton (son of former Liberty University head men’s basketball coach Randy Dunton), held a high powered BB gun at Hudson inside Hudson’s apartment.  Investigators believe Dunton, Journell, and Matthew Brady were looking for Hudson’s roommate; only his roommate wasn’t there.

4) From the reports I’ve read of the first bond hearing involving Dunton, Journell, and Brady, the prosecutor said Hudson “went looking” for the three men after the situation with the BB gun.  That did not come up at today’s hearing.

5) Judging from past court cases I’ve covered, Hudson will likely be the star witness against all three men.  He could have to testify in February during Dunton, Journell, and Brady’s preliminary hearing.

6) The preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 23rd in Blacksburg’s Montgomery County general district court.  This will be between the Hokies hosting UVA at home on the 21st and a trip to Duke on the 25th.

7) Hudson has not been charged with any crimes.  None.  The athletic department has also chosen to stand by Hudson, which I think says a lot.

Of course we’ll continue to look into this story; and I think a lot more could be revealed at that February 23rd hearing.

The bottom line is that we’ve heard nothing so far that implicates Dorenzo Hudson in anything, and I think we should keep that in mind
