Part of this line of work means going and knocking on doors and taking video of people who don’t want their doors knocked on and don’t want their properties videotaped.
Sometimes when you knock on these doors or get out to get some video you get cursed, chased, or a combination of the two.
I’ve been chased off properties by angry old men, women with umbrellas, and dogs both large and small (those dogs were angry too).
Today I covered a story on a Bedford County father accused of murdering his six week old little girl.
I needed video of the house where police say it happened.
I saw a “no trespassing” sign at the foot of the driveway which meant I wouldn’t be knocking on this door.
Going on the property would be considered trespassing.
I got four or five good shots with my video camera before a large, tattooed man with a noticeable limp came charging down the driveway.
“Git outta here! I said git your @$$ out of here!” he kept screaming.
Now he was coming at me so I’ll put him in the “chasing me” category.
I waved, smiled, put up my camera and got back in the news truck.
Anticipating vileness, I stayed close to my truck and left it running.
I’m there to do my job not pick a fight with the guy.
Time to leave and head back to the “mother ship” (that’s Leamon slang for the newsroom) to put my story together.
