Friday lite:  Confirmation I’m a dork

Yes this will confirm I’m a dork (many of you probably already thought so anyway)!

  I love professional wrestling!

  Watch it every Monday night.

I can look back fondly to my college years (1994-1998) and remember the Monday Night Wars.

  WCW vs. (then) WWF.

Nothing like a Monday night at the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house at MTSU…

Just me, some frosty beverages, and all by friends.

Well the Monday night wars may be returning on March 8th.

Spike TV’s TNA Wrestling has decided to go head to head against the USA Network and WWE’s Monday Night War from 9 to 11 p.m.

TNA only gets about one third of WWE’s audience (and that’s on a Thursday night), so this is an interesting move.

It’s okay to get a smaller number (tv talk for how many people actually watch the show) than the competition as long as you can sell some ads and merchandise.

You have to figure TNA’s Total iMPACT (the name of the show) will get an initial bump at first.

Their sales team can probably even tell potential buyers more people will watch since they might occasionally flip over from Monday Night Raw.

Raw is a consistent top 5 cable rating for the past decade or so.

Although the number never translates when they air programming on NBC (the ratings for the last Saturday Night’s Main Event were abysmal).

But competition only helps the product.

That’s why, as a wrestling fan, I’m glad someone is making a move to challenge Vince McMahon.

So you can guarantee I’ll be watching in three weeks.

I’ll be among those valuable 18-49 male viewers both shows seek.
