Facebook, Twitter important during breaking weather news

Even when the power gets knocked out, the old smart phone (as long as you’ve charged it) is still working.

You can use your phone nowadays to keep up with the latest information when you get hit by an eight inch snowstorm (like some of us did on Sunday) even when you’re the unfortunate victim of getting your electricity knocked out.

If you don’t have your Facebook or Twitter apps hooked up on your smart phone, you need to.

You can monitor the latest traffic information from VDOT’s tweets for example.  I like it because, by following VDOT on Twitter, you can avoid the pointing and clicking as far as navigation on its website.

You can post a question on your Facebook wall about traffic conditions on the interstate then wait for an answer from WSLS or another viewer.

Our Facebook page picked up 50 friends last night in a ten minute period according to one post.

Social media is a valuable tool for us as far as getting you important information in an expedited manner.
