Boy CNN’s ratings are tanking!
I saw this story on the Politico website, you can link to here .
In short summary, the writer (Politico’s Michael Calderone, one of the best at analyzing these types of stories by the way) found CNN’s primetime ratings are down 40 percent since 2009.
The writer then went and talked to some media gurus about how they would “fix” CNN.
I’m old enough to remember when CNN was the only game in town.
I can distinctly remember Bernard Shaw, Peter Arnett, and others during CNN’s coverage of the first Gulf War.
I don’t think I’m venturing too far out on a limb here when I say, out of FOX News and MSNBC, CNN is the most “down the middle” to many viewers, which the Politico article points out.
For the most part, I can agree with that.
But I think all three networks usually provide solid coverage on breaking news events, which Politico points out as well.
Let’s face it, walk up to the average guy on the street and say “FOX News” and that guy’s probably going to think—Republican.
Stop somebody and say “MSNBC” and that person’s probably going to think—- Democrat.
But when I say “CNN”, what do you think?
The writer in Politico basically points out that’s the problem—- CNN has no real identity.
My take—- I don’t know if CNN will do anything drastic to improve its ratings.
While the format’s changed since the ‘80s, it’s basically the same as it was 10 years ago.
Identities have been established on the right and the left.
Where else can CNN go?
