Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann and talk radio libertarian Neal Boortz seem like good people but their advice on not completing the Census is just plain nonsensical.
I filled mine out and mailed it earlier this week.
To refresh your memory, or in case you’ve never gotten one, it basically asks for your name, your wife or husband’s name, your children’s name, and all your ages.
That’s pretty much it and that’s all.
It does ask for a contact phone number, which I gave up since anybody can find that nowadays.
They already have your address or else they wouldn’t have mailed it.
Rep. Bachmann and Mr. Boortz have advised people not to complete their Census forms due to some ungrounded fear it will lead to more “redistribution” from the government.
Look, the Census is mandated by the Constitution, and the government’s going to tax us anyway—- with or without it.
Bachmann and Boortz are telling people to only give the government how many people live in their home—- that’s it.
And really—- that’s about all the government is asking for anyway.
I just can’t understand their argument.
I’m somewhat of a health nut.
I like to know what I’m putting in my body.
So the next time I go to Sheetz to get my favorite package of doughnuts, imagine if all it had under the ingredients list was “package contains five doughnuts.”
Duh.
I know that!
Under the “calorie content”, what if it said simply “we’re not telling you!”
How preposterous!
Well that’s basically the same thing Bachmann and Boortz are asking you to do.
Until all sides can argue *constructively* in this country, we’ll continue to pull our hair out.
