A few scares on the roads covering snow

I had a few scares today while driving around covering snow.

The first was coming to work in my ‘04 Corolla (my wife nicknamed the car “Cutesy).

I nearly skidded into traffic on Brambleton Avenue.

Came up short however.

The second was when I was getting off the Interstate in Pulaski County, I-81 Exit 89 to Hillsville.

I fish-tailed real hard and nearly put in the wall on the first turn (there wasn’t actually a wall there, but hey, it’s almost NASCAR season, so I just felt like using an analogy).

On Highway 52 headed to Fancy Gap in Carroll County, some guy in a nice pick up truck lost control.

A brief thought flashed through my mind he might actually hit me head on.

That would’ve ruined my day.

But he didn’t.

I had to audibly tell myself not to panic on I-81 near Radford when I got caught in an 18-wheeler’s rooster tail and couldn’t see anything.

I’ve always loved the irony about our line of work.

We always tell you stay off the roads during a winter storm.

But we’re always on them.
