Why VT should be proud after last night’s game… and a couple of TCU notes.

Last night, Virginia Tech suffered a tough loss to Boise State. If you’re a Tech fan, it can be a tough pill to swallow.

But, I think the Hokies and the Hokie Nation can hold its head high after last night’s game. Sure, they didn’t win. But, they played a great game (minus the first quarter). To come back from a 17 point deficit is impressive. A lot of teams would have given up.

And let’s be clear… Boise State is a good team. Strike that. Boise State is a great team. They have strength, depth, talent, and outstanding coaching. And Tech was able to hang with them until the bitter end, losing only in the final couple of minutes. I think that’s part of the reason Virginia Tech only fell three spots in the rankings from #10 to #13.

I know this is little consolation to the Hokies who are still smarting after a tough, hard fought game. But, I was saying the same thing to myself just 8 months ago after Boise State beat my alma mater, TCU in the Horned Frogs’ first ever BCS game. It was also a hard fought game that went back and forth with Boise winning the final few minutes on a trick play. It hurt.

But both the Hokies and Horned Frogs played well. They didn’t embarrass their schools. In fact, they showed determination, grit, and talent. I say to the Hokies (as I said to TCU)… job well done. You didn’t win, but you represented your school well.

Speaking of TCU, I have to bleed purple for a second. We are now fourth in the country after our victory over #24 Oregon State on Saturday. This is huge for TCU! Way to go Horned Frogs!
