What’s happening this week…
First, the Olympics are over which means Karen and I are off weekend duty. As I mentioned last week, we worked through the entire Olympics. That means I’m on day 21 of continuous work days. But, I see the light at the end of the tunnel. My first day off is this Friday!
Speaking of the Olympics, I kind of hate to see them go. I have really, really enjoyed these games. America did great, the athletes’ stories were compelling, and NBC’s coverage was excellent. I’d give the Vancouver games an A… if not an A+.
Roanoke City gets a new city manager this week. I’ll have more on my thoughts about Chris Morrill tomorrow. But, let’s just say I’m feeling optimistic about the Star City’s future. I wish Mr. Morrill luck as he begins his new job today.
I was stunned this weekend at the news of another devastating earthquake. This time it happened in Chile, which I have a distant connection to. My last college roommate, who was a Spanish major, moved to Chile after graduation where he worked for two years. John met his wife there and they now live in his hometown of Nashville, TN. But his wife, Damariz, still has a lot of family there. I’ve been keeping up with the latest from his extended family via his frequent Facebook postings. My prayers go out to John, Damirez and their entire family… as well as all the people of Chile.
Finally, on a lighter note, I can just almost see all the grass in my front and back yards for the first time in a month. What a site. And even more exciting… the pansies in my flowerbeds still have blooms on them. I have no idea how that’s possible. They’ve been smothered by almost two feet of snow for 4 weeks. Pansies are no pansies… pun intended.
There’s the week… at least as it looks on Monday.
