What’s happening this week… June 28th?

What’s going on this week… June 28th?

First off, I’m still thinking about my weekend. It was great. I was a guest for the Miss Virginia Pageant. I have to admit that I’ve never been much of a fan of pageants, but seeing it live was quite a different experience. In fact, I had a great time. I was impressed with the hard work these ladies go through and I had fun laughing at some of the theatrics of the night. All in all, it was a wonderful night in the Star City. Some of my pictures are posted on my Facebook page, if you’d like to see them.

While that was the highlight of my weekend, the lowlight was also on Saturday when my TCU Horned Frogs lost in the College World Series. They had been playing so well and had beaten much larger schools from much larger conferences. They made it all the way to the final four and almost into the finals, a feat that makes me proud. There’s always next year. Go Horned Frogs!

Now for the week ahead…

First, the hearing started today for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. Generally I look forward to these hearings with all the unexpected fireworks, the theatrics (perhaps that’s the word of the day) of the event, and the over the top rhetoric from both sides. But, this time the hearings look to be a dud. Maybe it’s all the other news going on from the death of Sen. Robert Byrd, to the last day of this Supreme Court session, to the ongoing drama unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico, to Tropical Storm Alex. Or maybe it’s simple math… meaning there’s not much the Republicans can do to stop the nomination. Or maybe it’s the ho-hum nature of this nominee. Or maybe it’s the fact that Kagan won’t change the partisan balance of the Supreme Court. Let’s face it, Elena Kagan doesn’t exactly spark controversy. No matter the reason, it looks like we may have a rather mundane confirmation process for the next US Supreme Court Justice.

The rest of my week, outside of the normal work week, will be spent on my two current passions: working out/diet and my house. I’m on a mission to lose five pounds before my next vacation, which only gives me about four weeks! YIKES! I’m also on a mission to finish the last few projects on my house. Once I get the basement cleaned out I’ll be done for the year… I hope!

That’s my week… at least as of today.
