What’s on tap for this week? It is going to prove to be a busy one.
It’s hard to believe but there are only 3 and a half more weeks of class at Virginia Tech. I teach Broadcast Writing there in the spring and fall. Generally, the fall flies by and the spring lugs by. I guess it’s anticipation of summer. But, 2010 is different. I can’t believe it’s also time for finals.
I have a big week of Big Brothers Big Sisters work. I’m on the board of directors for the local organization and this week that means meetings. I’ve already had two including a quick drop on with the United Way’s site visit to our building. Our monthly board meeting is this week as well and we have some national visitors attending. It’s an exciting time for the organization as we build to our 60 year anniversary and continue to serve hundreds of kids throughout the Roanoke and New River Valleys.
On the news front, I suspect we’ll be hearing a lot more about President Obama’s short list to fill Justice John Paul Stevens’ seat on the Supreme Court. And, I use the word “short” euphemistically. His list of possible replacements seems to grow by the day! I’ve written one blog on this topic… my suggestion about where the president should look for a replacement. I’ll have more this week… stay tuned.
I think we have seen the last of our national and state political leaders for a while. Over the last two weeks we had visits from names like Warner, Webb, Allen, McDonnell, Bolling, Boucher, Perriello, and Cuccinelli. But, the Easter recess for Congress is over and they are back at work in Washington. It’s always good to see our leaders and ask them about their votes and the issues facing our commonwealth and country. But, I think even I was feeling a little overwhelmed with the attention we got in the span of a week… and I’m a political junkie! In other words, it’s time for a slight break.
Whatever spare time I get this week will be dedicated to the yard. It’s hard not to be outside when the weather is this beautiful.
That’s what’s going on this week…
