Warner tries telephone town hall meeting

With health care on the front burner, Sen. Mark Warner is trying a new way to get his constituents thoughts on the issue: a telephone town hall meeting.

His staff says this is something other members of Congress in other states have tried, so they’re testing it to see if it will work in Virginia.

They contacted tens of thousands of people to participate and expect to have a couple of hundred on the conference call. They invited people over the age of 55 because it is the group least likely to contact Sen. Warner via email. They hope this will be a new way to reach that constituent base.

Warner’s Communications Director, Kevin Hall, tells me that it will resemble a radio call in show, without the radio.

It will take place Tuesday night at 6:30 and last an hour.
