Trump can’t help himself, credits himself for Romney win

We have another update from the Trump file.

On Monday, Politifact.com (my favorite political website) posted a bit on Donald Trump and his latest big claim.

According the site, Trump told FOX News that Mitt Romney can thank him for his Saturday victory in the Nevada caucuses. Specifically, he said, “There was a lot riding on that particular race in Nevada and it was interesting, because the numbers were much, much greater than you thought. And a lot of people are giving me credit for that. And I will accept that credit.”

I’m not sure there is another human on the planet with a more skewed view of himself than Donald Trump.

First, let’s consider that Romney was considered the likely winner of the caucuses from the start, well before Trump’s clumsy endorsement of the former Massachusetts governor. Also, Romney overwhelmingly won the caucuses in 2008, had a strong organization there both in 2008 and in 2012, and benefits from a large Mormon population in the state. Trump can’t claim credit for any of that.

Further, Trump should consider that Romney’s victory last weekend was actually smaller than it was in 2008 when he was running against a better field of candidates. This year got 16,486 votes or 50%. Four years ago, he earned 22,649 votes or 51% (thank you Wikipedia). And, this year, voter turnout was actually lower in 2012. That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of Trump’s endorsement.

Once again, Trump is far better at taking credit for something than he is at actually getting the facts straight.

But, ultimately it is Trump who once again has won the night because we are indeed still talking and writing about him.
