Did anyone else see former Texas Congressman Tom Delay, who was nicknamed “The Hammer” while he served as Majority Whip and later Majority Leader of the US House, on Dancing with the Stars last night? WOW!
I asked that question aloud in the newsroom this afternoon, and a fellow reporter called out to me, saying, “Leave Tom DeLay alone.” Adding, “At least he has the guts to try it. I don’t see you out there big boy.” This reporter is right, you don’t see me out there and you never will! And for good reason. Aside from the fact that I’m not a star… I know I can’t dance and that I would only embarrass myself! Evidently Tom DeLay isn’t that self aware!
Seriously, DeLay’s dancing skills weren’t that bad. I’m not saying he was ready for primetime, but it wasn’t horrible. However, his costumes were ridiculous. Again, I say WOW! What were the producers thinking?!?
But, there’s something strange about seeing a former House member who was at one time one of the most powerful men in Washington, DC and the most powerful man in Texas, doing the Fox Trot on national television. In a previous life (not that long ago), this man was feared for his ability to twist arms and produce votes. Now, he’s twisting his hips across the dance floor. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
I’m not a regular viewer of this show, but Tom DeLay may be enough to get me to tune in again. I guess that’s why he was picked to participate.
