TCU’s incredible (although not perfect) season…

I’m back from a long, relaxing break. It was good to recharge the batteries to prepare for a busy 2010!

Of course the biggest event of the New Year (for me and thousands of our TCU fans) was the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona Monday night. As dedicated readers of this blog and viewers of WSLS know, I’m a TCU grad and have been more than proud of my alma mater’s performance this year.

TCU was undefeated leading into last night’s game. We had the best defense in the nation, one of the best offenses, an outstanding quarterback, and were ranked #3 in the country. It was our best season since TCU won the national championship in 1938.

Of course, some of that changed last night as TCU lost to Boise State. It was rematch between the two teams. TCU won last year’s Poinsettia Bowl, beating Boise by a point. But, that wasn’t the case in Arizona. Instead, we lost by seven.

I have no doubt that TCU is the better team. If you look at the stats it is obvious. Further, six of the teams TCU beat in the regular season went on to bowl games and all of them won. Four teams Boise beat went to bowl games and only two won.

But, that doesn’t matter when your team doesn’t show up prepared for a game. The team was nervous and seemed to have already looked past the game. It was disappointing.

Still, I am VERY proud of what they accomplished this year. TCU had a GREAT season. They defied the odds, knocked on the door of the BCS system and at one time had a legitimate claim to compete for the national championship. That won’t happen for this season. But they are still champs in my mind.

It’s the day after their loss, but I’m still wearing my purple and I am VERY proud to be a Horned Frog!
