Today, the NFL officially suspended Ndamukong Suh for his arm stomp during the Lions - Packers game on Thanksgiving Day.
If you didn’t see it, the stomp is blatant. Obvious. Intentional. There’s no other way to view the video. I know Suh tried to play it off as an accident. He said it was only trying to get his balance. As a rule, I don’t get my balance by stomping my foot down like a child who just had his toy taken away. Nice try, Suh… but no one bought it.
What I find even more galling that Suh’s obvious lame excuse was his apology, delivered, according to ESPN radio, to the NFL Commissioner over the weekend. There’s nothing worse than someone who acts badly and the tucks their tail between their legs and apologizes. There’s one of these guys in every office and I always look at them and say… why not learn from your mistakes and not act badly in the first place?
Suh’s apology came on top of his much publicized meeting with Commissioner Goodell earlier in the season to see how he can work better in the NFL. How many lessons do you need to know how to behave like an adult. You’re playing a game… reach back to the sportsmanship lessons we learned in PE in third grade. And, stop apologizing after the fact. Wouldn’t it be better to just not behave badly in the first place?
Maybe a two game suspension will be enough to get it through Ndamukong Suh’s head that he needs to clean up his act. But, given his track record, I doubt it.
