President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are hosting their first state dinner tonight.
The guest list was just announced this afternoon, but prior to that, several news outlets had stories that suggested no top Republicans had been invited.
A FOX News story had a banner headline on its website that read: “
It turns out that this is factually incorrect. I just reviewed the list of the participants at tonight’s dinner and it includes several top Republicans including Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who’s considered a possible 2012 presidential or vice presidential contender, Sen. Dick Lugar (R-IN), a leading Republican voice on foreign affairs in the US Senate, and former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who endorsed then Sen. Obama during the presidential campaign.
The FOX News story notes that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was invited and declined. The examiner.com also is reporting that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) was invited and declined.
In other words, don’t believe some of the partisan attacks on the guest list.
